Finally, an application I like!

I just got on Facebook about two months ago, I guess. Matty McMatterson convinced me that it wasn't just for the younguns anymore, and that I'd enjoy it. He was partly right. I have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, seeing what current friends are up to, and so forth.

What I hate is the application. You know--the "pass a drink" or "throw a snowball" or "I nominated you as the cutest person on Facebook!" or "little fish" or whatever. I just don't have the patience for all that.

HOWEVER.... today, I saw an application that instantly caught my attention! Mybirdingplace.com has a bird ID quiz! And check me out:

I had to ID the following birds (one at a time, multiple choice),

I must confess that I just guessed on the Green Hermit and the Spruce Grouse, never having seen nor heard of either bird. The grouse one was fairly easy to guess, as the other choices were Willow Ptarmigan and some other smaller birds. The hummer one, however, was tough. Still--good guessing!

I figure this can be another way for me to get more practice IDing birds. If you haven't tried it, check it out!

I think you can disable the applications--or just outright ignore them. You don't have to sign up for them
I like Facebook for family connections--I have a slew of first cousins (on my mother's fam side) so we can get on Facebook and chatter!

I signed up for Linked In due to pressure from Geoff, but I didn't think I would like Facebook.
Well, when I read this post, I thought, what the hell. Delia's doing it, I might as well, too.

I Facebook to stalk my children - uh, I mean, connect with old friends, yeah, that's it. LOL

I just ignore the applications I don't like. Sending someone a "Lil Green" whatever is in NO way going to save the planet, let's be clear about that.

You rock on the bird identification thing. I rarely know what I'm looking at. That's what my bird books are for!

Great score!
I have a few applications, had them for fun before I started working full time again... I have to find a moment to disable most of them...

KGMom--yeah, I ignore most (read: all except this one) apps now.

Susan--cool!

sheesh--deleting Dubai guy.

Lisa Beth--lol! It IS kind-of a stalker's dream, though, you know? Creeped out now.

Mel--thanks! You should try it too!

I'm an Intermediate Birder! Yay!

I've never been inclined to investigate Facebook. No interest at all. I don't even have time to invest in my own blog, for crying out loud.

Delia, my hopes for New River are to see life birds - any birds at all - doesn't matter.
