Hot birding action

I wanted to go birding early this morning but I ended up sleeping in after a rather sleepless night. I went later after breakfast, so it was a little hot--the sun is so bright here and hot.

I didn't see a whole lot of birds, BUT I did see a lifer! Western Bluebird! I didn't get a photo, however. Still---that's 214! I may not have a job or any income, but I'm getting lifers all the time!

Anyway, I did get a few shots of some birds:Though this pic doesn't look like it, I think it's a Red-tailed Hawk. I could see the sun shining red though his tail feathers. Here's another pic:
Is this a RTHA?

I saw bunches of Steller's Jays; they're really loud:

I also saw some Bushtits:

and I saw these guys in what was a funny-captioned photo:

On my way home, I saw this horrific little sight:I'm guessing that's a bat. But what happened to him?

It is so unseemly of me to say this, but when I saw Bushtits, I thought, Jenna.

I'm sorry to filth up your birdy blog.

Delete me if needed!

I think Fran's comment may necessitate some brain bleach. (Not because of the "tits" part, but because of the "Bush" part. Ew.)

The first two photos look like a Red-tailed Hawk to me. The dark wrist commas and bars along the leading edge of the wings are pretty distinctive.

As for the bat, maybe it got caught on a barb and starved?

Fran--you are EVIL. I'm definitely needing some brain bleach, like John suggested.

John--right there with ya. And yeah, it does look like maybe his little claw might've gotten stuck on the barb part. How sad.

Looks like the bat might be Shrike food.--Butcher birds

Butcher--seems like a shrike would've taken more, no?

I wondered about a shrike to but wonder if they could catch a bat.
Love the TUVUs with their own caption.

Lynne, you wouldn't believe how many TuVus there are here! Like starlings, almost!
