There’s a little—and I mean tiny—spider who lives on the back of my monitor at work. I’m actually just guessing he lives back there, because I’ve see him every day for about a week. He comes out in the morning, crawls around on the edge of the monitor, then sometimes he jumps onto my copy-holder-stand-thingie and checks out the stuff I’m entering in our database. So far, he hasn’t crawled onto the screen itself yet; maybe it’s too hot or bright or something. He’s so tiny (I’m looking at him as I type this). He’s probably 2mm in length. Not even a quarter of an inch. He’s dark with some lighter parts (white?) on him. Because my close-up eyesight is so terrible, I tried to use the loupe to see him but he’s too shy for such magnification.
How does he eat? It’s rare that flying insects get into the building, at least down where I am. If only I had a gnat for him.
This is what I’m focused on today. Anything but the obvious.

Spiders need love too.
Oh, I love you, Delia. Your my kind of girl. I get engrossed with the tiniest life forms, too...things that go unnoticed by most people captivate the hell of me. You keep an eye on that tiny thing!
Dr. MvM: Indeed.
Mary: Now I'm all attached to him, and I'm afraid that he'll disappear! Haven't seen him yet this morning....
Oh, no!
That is lovely. I really appreciate the thought of you and your spider. What respect for all living beings.
Is he there today?
In my bathroom I get these daddy long legs that I am obsessed with. If I see one in the tub before I shower, I get them out so they are ok.
What a beautiful image I have of you wanting to find him a gnat.
That is peace to me.
No, Fran, and I'm getting worried....
Hang in there dguzman... the ways of nature, as you well know, are not always the ways of our own human hearts.
Maybe he's a geek spider, since the database stuff intrigues him. Or maybe he's nibblinga way at your bytes.
Beth--never thought about that, but you could be right! I just hope he comes back. Maybe he's just crashed out back there behind the Dell, after a rough night of byte-crunching.
No sign of Mr. Little yet this morning. How long do spiders live? I did finally get him under the loupe; he was brown and white speckled.
Awwww. He relocated. There will be other spiders...
This reminds me of the relationship my Dad had with a bee (I can't think of the name right now) - the ones that cut holes into wood. Anyway, he watched that bee work under the porch roof every day for weeks and weeks. Suddenly, one day the bee was gone. My Dad was actually sad, as though he lost a good friend.
Are you a closet buddhist?
Come back, Some Spider!
well, you know you get used to having someone around, and then when he's gone....
Our office has been invaded by huge daddy-long-legs this past week! Most were ushered outside, but a few became victims of overexcited office ladies.
