So of course I yanked the car over to the shoulder and started snapping!
I hoped I could get him taking flight, but he just perched there, looking majestic.
These are my first-ever photographs of a bald eagle. I've only seen one in the wild a few times, usually way too far away to get a photo. I'm getting all tingly just thinking about it.

Way to go Delia!! You got AWESOME pix! The population of Bald Eagles has gone way up in Minnesota and sightings are more common than they used to be but I still get all tingly when I see them too.
Totally cool. I'm jealopus you got to see one live.
Great eagle shots! He does indeed look majestic.
Very nice.
Beautiful! It's cool that you live in a place where you can stumble across a scene like that while driving.
Lynne--thanks! I wish they were a little clearer when you look at them full-size. WTF is up with my auto-focus?
Monkey--thanks!
NCMtnWoman--he can't help but look majestic, I think. No raptor can!
SorgCrow--thanks!
Bubs--one of the things I love about living up here: I see some amazing stuff every day!
Simply fantastic. (I'm not saying nuthin' about that title.)
That's so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
DAMN! I've never seen one in the wild. You did good!!!!!
Oh, D....well DONE!
They are quite something .. that was a great picture.
Here in NW Washington there are beginning to be hundreds of them this time of year ... many live here and many others migrate to follow the spawning salmon up the rivers. Late November through January will be the peak, and the great Bald Eagle Festivals.
DCup--the title wrote itself, man.
Beth--glad you like, and glad you're back from your blogvacay!
Mary--it was awesome. I wish I could've stuck around for his take-off back into the air but I had a meeting, dangit. Those are the pics I'm dying to get.
Susan--cool! I was thinking of you the whole time I was watching him, wishing you were there to point out cool stuff about him.
Rabbits' Guy--Wow, hundreds of them! That's mind-blowing. I once saw a couple together on their nest-tree, but that's it. Neato!
Great job! I've never been able to that close to a Bald Eagle for a photo.
Beautiful photos! We see them a lot (even in the city), but I've never been able to get good photos of them. Really beautiful! I'm tingly just looking at those pics.
I had one show up at my 44th birthday in my back yard. I considered it quite an honor.
