Strange spam address

This post is rated PG-13 -- maybe even NC-17! You've been warned!

You know how you always get those spam emails (I won't go into the topics themselves), and they'll be from an address that will have a suffix like "@mail.com" or "@hotmail.com." I get them too, even at work. So I got one earlier that caught my eye, because the address had "@geese.com" at the end Geese? The subject line and content of the email did not seem to be about geese! So I decided to explore and typed in http://www.geese.com/. Here's what geese.com looks like:

So now I'm confused. Why would (ahem) off-color emails come from an address at geese.com?

What's really sad is how the site is all about killing geese. Why isn't it killinggeese.com? Or huntinggeese.com? I don't know what I expected, but I guess I thought it would be more like a site with lol geese or something.

The bottom of the screen had something interesting, though:

In case you can't read those things at the bottom in the orange -- it says:

Grey goose vodka Squirrel Seagull Quail Duck as pet

Duck as pet!!! I want a duck! I want some grey goose vodka (dirty martini, lots of olives!)!

Oh, sorry--got a little involved there. Anyway--what a weird site that is. And I guess they also do porn emails. Weird.

A lot of spammers spoof legitimate email addresses to make their messages harder to block. Sometimes they hack into other people's computers or email accounts and then use those as mirrors to send spam. Either of those might be the reason behind a spam using geese.com as the sender address.

Geese.com is a strange site itself because it appears to have no content. It looks like everything on the site is paid advertising. They might be involved in some kind of scam where they use a site designed to pick up search engine traffic and redirect it through ads.

Okay, that's just weird.

I'm with ya on the spammy emails. I am so tired of getting emails telling me how I can enlarge my penis size. Thanks, but my penis is just fine. No help needed there.

It's a constant battle to get rid of junk.I get suckered in to reading some stuff because I'm afraid I'll miss something.

I don't know what to say. Weird--that hardly covers it.

Delia, it's upsetting, isn't it?

About a month ago, I found out throught Technorati that someone stole my post about my first bird walk - I found it entirely in German on a blog for viagra, cialis, etc. I was pissed.

Last week, I had to turn on my word verification because I was receiving 100 comments a day on two posts I did last Spring - all of these comments came from porn blogs.

I wanted to attack these people with my bare hands.

John--I didn't follow any of the links; I was too horrified by all the guns. But thanks for the info--I am kinda uneducated when it comes to spam and hacking and stuff.

Fran--*snicker*

Susan--I've never heard any complaints about my "unit" either!

Larry--I know what you mean--sometimes the subject lines are intriguing or vaguely familiar.

KGMom--Yup--just weird.

Mary--That's terrible! At least comment moderation and word verification work; I've never gotten any spam comments (knock on wood). That's weird about your post being stolen. I'd be pissed too!
